Celebrating National Dog Day

There’s a special doggy holiday coming up: August 26th is National Dog Day! We love seeing our canine friends celebrated. They certainly deserve the recognition. After all, their friendship, love, and loyalty are truly wonderful gifts. In this article from All About Animals Veterinary Services, serving the Villa Rica area, GA, a local vet offers some great ideas on how to make your pup’s day extra special.

Toys

Playing is of course lots of fun for Fido. It’s also great for him, both mentally and physically. Toys are bound to get that cute tail wagging! Your pooch may love a classic dog toy, like a rope toy or ball. He may also like something more modern, like an interactive ball that moves with him, or a doggy fountain that sprays water when he steps on the pad.

Treats

If you could ask your pup what his favorite things are, we’re pretty sure treats would be at or near the top of the list, along with bacon, belly rubs, long walks, and car rides. Get Fido something extra yummy for this special occasion, like some doggy ice cream or a roll of gourmet dog food. Your furry pal can also have some plain, cooked, boneless meat, fish, or chicken.

Bed

Did you know that dogs spend about half of their time sleeping? A new bed is a great way to make sure your cute pet is sleeping comfortably.

Exploration

Man’s Best Friend is very curious, and is known for his love of exploring. Take Fido down a new route on his walk, or check out a pretty park with him. Your furry friend will get entertainment and enrichment from being able to sniff new grass.

Belly Rubs

One of the many things we love about dogs is the fact that they can be such hams when it comes to getting attention. Indulge your canine buddy with lots of belly rubs. Ear scritches and forehead pets also count!

Water Fun

August is usually scorching hot here in Georgia. If your four-legged buddy likes to swim, take him to a pet-friendly pool or beach for a dip. You can also get Fido a kiddie pool to splash around in at home.
